Does a Certification really matter?

There are so many views and the debate will continue to rage over time. Great Coaches like Marshall Goldsmith, Anthony Robbins, etc are not certified (they don't need it!). For many others, who have the experience, the knowledge, the inherent competency - it does not too. Today, however, a lot of folks, refer to themselves as Executive Coaches, while in reality they are just offering advice. Perhaps, they are great mentors, even good organizational consultants. I'm not sure if they are Coaches.

A certification establishes one thing: one is committed to the profession! It creates trust. It helps to build a relationship. It provides a rigor one needs to follow. It embodies a code of conduct in the way one will professionally conduct oneself. Yes, certification does matter!
