Pulin Garg, well known Professor from IIMA, once shared with
us at the ISISD labs, “ man has a deep
desire to relate and express, as also to envision and reflect”. I would
often smile at these comments – these were not jargons but Gargons. It is only after several years that I clearly understood
the potency of these words.
Over several workshops working with senior leadership
groups, I am constantly reminded how we all as human beings wish to relate and
express. What does it mean to know oneself, to be aware of the self, and to
engage and connect with the other? Clearly the way we think, the way we feel
and the way, we interact, connect and behave with others determine our world
and how we see others and ourselves. The Talmud says, “we do not see things as
they are, we see them as we are”.
We can only understand others once we become more aware of
ourselves. I have found that the use of psychometrics, visualization, guided meditation,
Gestalt exercises, Life Graph Analysis etc useful to support personal
exploration. However, most of all, I have discovered that Silence and listening
to oneself deeply is significantly useful. In silence, you listen to the sound
of AUM – both the beginning and the end - alpha and the omega.
